The Paris based duo have been touring constantly in promotion of their hybrid dance-floor informed, international flavoured 2017 self-titled Akuphone Records LP.
2017/18 highlights include live sets at Nuits Sonores, Ghoulash Disko, Atlas Electronic, Batofar & FGO Barbara, and continue with upcoming shows for Transmusicales 2018 and Riddim Collision.
Ko Shin Moon perform with a simple setup including a key-tar and saz over sampler led tracks built from years of sampling and record digging. This marks the combo of live instrumentation and electronic production techniques.
Blurring the lines between time and space, Ko Shin Moon mixes acoustic instruments from various regions of the world, analog devices, traditional music, electronic arrangements, sampling and field recordings.
As the soundtrack of a patchwork journey, the band’s first LP conveys one along a succession of hybrid territories, imaginary sound landscapes, multicolored collages: Acid Dabke, Turkish-Greek Disco, Cosmic Raï, New Beat Molam, Tibetan Ambient, Synth Wave Hindi Filmi, Rickshaw Dance Music…
Ko Shin Moon is borrowed from the title of the former bassist of the Yellow Magic Orchestra's Haruomi Hosono's LP Cochin Moon. A concept album created as the soundtrack to a Bollywood film that never existed. It is a very synthetic album, with a lot of machines, keyboards but inspired by the Indian world. "It represents the concept of Ko Shin moon; to visit a territory, a place, a music and then replay that with our means, our way."
Excerpt from spectrumculture.com
Musicians Axel Moon and Niko Shin are omnivorous multi-instrumentalists, and one can only imagine what kinds of records they have collected. Moon, who studied ethnomusicology, plays stringed instruments like the oud, sitar and the Afghan rebab, as well as guitars. Shin, who began his career as a sound engineer, specializes in analog synthesizers. The pair manipulates tape sources in the studio and in concert, and listening to their debut album, it’s not always clear whether you’re hearing an instrument or a sample. That’s how convincing these musicians are.
